​DLR Group Reveals Photographs of Finished Student-Athlete Spaces at Colorado State University’s Moby Arena
The design aims to accommodate student-athletes' everyday needs.

(Fort Collins, Colo. – June XX, 2023) – This week, DLR Group revealed final photography of the newly renovated student-athlete spaces in Colorado State University’s Moby Arena. The renovation--phase one of a three-part project with the university—transformed the former football weight room into best-of-peer locker suites for the University’s men’s and women’s basketball programs.
DLR Group’s design for the new spaces evokes dramatic feelings and excitement for prospective student-athletes, giving CSU coaches a tool in recruiting highly regarded basketball players to their program. Once on campus, the spaces provide a home away from home in a relaxed setting that is both attractive and functional. During the design phase, DLR Group’s team collaborated with administrators and coaches to determine the ideal sequence of experiences in a student-athlete’s typical day, and then developed a layout that would best accommodate that sequence. The dynamic interiors are energetic while also aiding in rest and recovery.
“Due to the low height of the existing space and in-place infrastructure, this project required close collaboration and coordination with the university,” said Principal and Design Leader Greg Garlock, AIA, LEED AP BD+C. “Between the architectural intent and the engineering reality, we had to work thoughtfully and creatively in order to maximize the intended impact of the spaces.”
These key spaces for student-athletes—which were identical in function and size for both the women’s and men’s programs—include locker rooms, spa-like toilet/showers, team meeting rooms, team lounges, recovery lounges, and hydration stations. Also included within the suites are coach locker/changing rooms with direct connection to player spaces. The entire suite is anchored by a dynamic gear display that highlights the essence of CSU and Rams Basketball.
DLR Group provided programming, architecture, electrical and technology engineering, and interior design services, including FF&E.
